US technology and artificial intelligence stocks fell in pre-market trading Monday after leading CEOs renewed concerns about the pace of AI development over the weekend.Cryptocurrencies moved the other way. Bitcoin gained about 1% over 24 hours to $77,800 and ether added 1% to $2,500.Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei called for the industry to slow development to allow safety measures to catch up. OpenAI's Sam Altman and Elon Musk, whose xAI developed Grok, voiced agreement.The Selloff Came From Inside the IndustryThat provenance is what makes the move unusual.AI-sector drawdowns this year have come from external shocks — China's DUV lithography breakthrough, margin guidance, financing conditions. Anthropic also received warrants for up to 50.8 million Rumble shares.The two developments sit awkwardly together. A company calling for the industry to slow down committed $13.7 billion over six years to compute capacity on the same day.Both can be coherent — slowing capability development while securing infrastructure are separable decisions, and a six-year lease reflects a long planning horizon rather than a sprint. But markets pricing an AI slowdown while the company advocating it signs a deal of that size are responding to the statement rather than the behaviour.JPMorgan Skipped Neutral on IREN and Named the Pricing NumberJPMorgan upgraded IREN two notches, moving to overweight from underweight and lifting its price target to $65 from $46, calling the company a top neocloud provider.The specific data point behind it matters more than the rating. Neocloud contract pricing has moved to $15-$20 per megawatt from $10-$15 — an increase of roughly a third to a half.That reframes the sector's economics.
