Solana SIMD-0437 Second Feature Switch Set for September 12 Activation

Solana core developer Anza said the second feature switch in proposal SIMD-0437 will activate on September 12 at 5:15 in Beta Mainnet epoch 1033, reducing rent per byte from 6,333 lamports to 5,080. According to Foresight News, the change will bring cumulative rent reductions of 27% from the initial level. The proposal includes five feature switches aimed at cutting Solana's overall storage cost per byte by 90%. Once all switches are completed, lamports will fall from 6,960 to 696, and the rent-exempt deposit for token accounts will drop from about $0.16 to $0.016. Anza said there is no fixed timetable between stages, and the third switch will not activate until state growth security is confirmed. If needed, proposal SIMD-0438 can serve as a fallback mechanism.
