Senate Subcommittee Probes OpenAI Over Hugging Face Breach

According to Axios, a Republican-led Senate subcommittee that oversees disaster management is investigating OpenAI's handling of the July Hugging Face breach. Sen. Josh Hawley, chair of the Senate Homeland Security & Governmental Affairs subcommittee on Disaster Management, said he is launching the probe after OpenAI released an internal investigation into the incident. Hawley called OpenAI's response to the cyber test "reckless" and said the company redacted important details from its report. He is demanding answers from OpenAI CEO Sam Altman by Oct. 1 on 16 questions about the breach and the company's response, and is also seeking documents on OpenAI's internal policies and procedures. OpenAI did not respond to a request for comment.
