Republicans Push Congressional Stock-Trading Ban As Trump Discloses 1,051 June Transactions

According to CNBC, Republicans are using their midterm convention to promote a congressional stock-trading ban as part of an anti-corruption message, even as President Donald Trump continues to actively trade millions of dollars in investment accounts. Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, R-Fla., is among at least two speakers expected to call for restrictions during the Dallas convention's opening day Wednesday, which will focus on Government Integrity. Trump disclosed 1,051 transactions in June alone, totaling between $78.1 million and $263.1 million, and his accounts bought and sold stocks, bonds and exchange-traded funds, including multimillion-dollar moves involving Meta, Berkshire Hathaway, Visa and Mastercard and as much as $50,000 in newly public SpaceX. House Republicans passed the Stop Insider Trading Act in July by a 232-198 vote; the bill would bar members of Congress from buying individual stocks while in office, but would not apply to the president.
