Arbitrum Founder and Solana Co-Founder Debate Robinhood Chain Fee Model

Arbitrum founder Steven Goldfeder and Solana co-founder Toly debated Robinhood Chain's fee model on September 6. According to PANews, Toly said Robinhood Chain's 10% revenue share to Arbitrum would be enough to cover four times Solana's on-chain transaction fees, suggesting user gas fees could be lower if the chain were deployed on Solana. Goldfeder said Robinhood could keep about 90% of gas revenue under Arbitrum's architecture, and that the choice of Arbitrum was made to "be the landlord, not the tenant." Toly replied that Robinhood could charge fees at the application front end while using a lower-cost base network. Goldfeder said much of the on-chain activity does not pass through Robinhood's front end, and that if Robinhood were only a tenant on the base network, it would not earn revenue from those peripheral activities. Market reports said Robinhood evaluated Solana and Arbitrum during the product planning stage and ultimately chose Arbitrum, which can deploy its own chain independently.
