Catalyst Funds' Larry Holzenthaler Says Recent Bond Market Drivers Differ by Country

According to Jin10, Catalyst Funds senior portfolio manager Larry Holzenthaler said in a report that the drivers behind recent bond market moves have differed slightly across countries. He said one difference is the overall economic conditions and corporate earnings performance in each country, noting that U.S. corporate earnings remain fairly strong relative to other regions, while performance elsewhere is somewhat mixed. He also said government debt burdens are generally high worldwide, which has clearly made markets concerned about long-dated bonds, and that oil prices are another factor. Holzenthaler said energy prices affect different countries to varying degrees, but oil prices and energy prices are both playing a role, and inflation is also undoubtedly an issue.
