Airlink Pulls Out Of Planned Stadium Flyby After South Africa Stunt Review

According to the BBC, South African airline Airlink will not repeat a planned low-altitude flyby over a stadium in Soweto this weekend after a similar aerial display last Saturday drew scrutiny from the country's aviation regulator, SACAA. The regulator said it had approved the applications and safety measures for the flybys but was now investigating further after media discussions, and it said it had obtained flight data recorder downloads and other material for analysis. Footage from last weekend's air show before a rugby match in Cape Town, featuring South Africa and New Zealand, circulated widely online. Flightradar24 said its analysis showed the lead aircraft passed less than 50 feet, or 15 meters, above the top of the stadium. Airlink said the flights were carried out within approved and rehearsed safety altitude and speed limits and were flown by a highly experienced crew.
