Hong Kong Exchange Executive Says Bitcoin ETF Access to Mainland Depends on Mutual Recognition

Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing stock product development head Brian Roberts said Hong Kong Bitcoin ETFs could reach mainland investors through the Stock Connect mechanism only if the products are based on mutual recognition. According to Foresight News, he made the remarks at the Bitcoin Asia 2026 conference in Hong Kong. Roberts said the mainland would need an ETF similar to Hong Kong's that tracks cryptocurrencies so the products on both sides are equivalent in nature, adding that inclusion could then become possible and would be a key breakthrough. When Moon Inc. Chief Operating Officer Russ Jacobsen asked whether it would still take some time to achieve, Roberts replied, "Yes, it should."
