U.S. Commerce Official Chris Fall Resigns After Three Months Leading AI Testing Agency

The U.S. Department of Commerce confirmed on Tuesday that Chris Fall, director of the Center for AI Standards and Innovation, resigned after three months leading the federal AI testing agency. According to Odaily, his departure came as the Trump administration worked on the safe deployment of artificial intelligence and as agencies developed AI standards. Fall was appointed in April after a government reorganization of the agency, formerly known as the U.S. AI Safety Institute, to lead the Commerce Department’s Center for AI Standards and Innovation. The agency develops AI testing and evaluation capabilities and supporting standards for advanced AI systems. The federal agency will temporarily lack a formal leader while the government discusses next steps on AI standards and regulation.
