Hougan said Bessent outlined a future U.S. economic strategy based on five principles, including a third principle stating that the United States will set the rules for the next-generation economy. In remarks about the digital economy, Bessent said digital assets, stablecoins, tokenization, and new payment systems will help shape the future of money, adding that the United States should not position itself as a bystander in building that future.
