ING: Bank of England Financial Stability Report May Support Gilts and the Pound

The pound may receive indirect support from the UK government bond market after the Bank of England releases its Financial Stability Report, ING analyst Chris Turner said. According to Jin10, Turner said the focus will be on whether the Bank of England removes UK government bonds from its leverage exposure measure, under which banks must hold 3.25% Tier 1 capital. He said such a change could increase domestic demand for UK government bonds, reduce government borrowing, and ease financial conditions. Turner added that if this objective is achieved, the euro could fall toward 0.8500 against the pound.
