AI Data Center 800V DC and CPO Timelines Delayed to 2028–2029, SemiAnalysis Says

SemiAnalysis said two key AI data center technology roadmaps have been delayed, including NVIDIA’s native 800V DC architecture and the mass production timeline for co-packaged optics (CPO). According to Odaily, the research firm said NVIDIA’s planned large-scale shipments of an 800V DC power architecture have been pushed back to 2028, later than market expectations. SemiAnalysis added that CPO shipment volumes in 2027 are expected to be below market expectations, and large-scale mass production could be delayed to 2028 to 2029. The report cited optical engine connection yield rates, ASIC integration difficulty, and cost factors as key reasons. The firm said 400V DC solutions are still expected to ramp as planned starting in 2026, and some near-package optics (NPO) projects may accelerate. However, it said supply chains for power systems, switches, and optical modules tied to new platforms such as Rubin Ultra and Kyber will face schedule pressure. SemiAnalysis maintained a relatively positive view on Amphenol, Vertiv, and Legrand, while taking a more cautious stance on Lumentum, Himax, Navitas, and Wolfspeed.
