FTSE Russell Modifies Rules to Expedite Inclusion of Large IPOs in Major Indexes

FTSE Russell has announced a rule change to accelerate the inclusion of newly listed large-cap stocks in its major indexes, coinciding with SpaceX's anticipated record-breaking initial public offering (IPO) in the coming weeks. According to Jin10, the policy, revealed late Tuesday local time, states that IPOs with investable market values exceeding the threshold of the Russell 500 Index will be eligible for fast-track inclusion after the fifth trading day post-listing. Previously, eligible companies were only assessed during quarterly reviews. Arne Noack, Head of Americas Equity and Multi-Asset Indexes at FTSE Russell, stated in a release, "Introducing a fast-track inclusion mechanism for large-scale IPOs allows the index to more promptly reflect significant market developments." This move by the index provider, part of the London Stock Exchange Group, mirrors a similar initiative by Nasdaq earlier this year, which reduced the waiting period for index inclusion from at least three months to 15 days to accommodate potential mega IPOs.
