Fraudster impersonates influencer, lures victims with fake token

A fraudster impersonating crypto influencer Ansem orchestrated a $2.6 million scam around an alleged memecoin "airdrop" to Solana users. Posing as the 250,000-follower figure, the con artist claimed to launch a token distributing free coins to those supplying upfront SOL.

Unsuspecting victims sent SOL and connected wallets to a phishing link, enabling the scammer to drain both contributed funds and linked crypto assets. In essence, they surrendered tokens under the pretext of an imminent airdrop.

The scheme exemplifies escalating memecoin mania and subsequent grifts plaguing Solana's red-hot ecosystem. Countless X influencers now solicit SOL for dubious token projects dangling airdrops as bait.
