South Korea’s Financial Services Commission will hold an emergency roundtable on AI security threats in the financial sector on November 5, chaired by Chairman Lee Eok-won. According to Odaily, Financial Supervisory Service Governor Lee Chan-jin, Financial Security Institute President Park Sang-won, and the heads of KB Kookmin Bank, Shinhan Bank, Hana Bank, Woori Bank and NH NongHyup Bank will attend to review the implementation of security measures following recent cyberattacks on the financial industry.
The five bank chiefs’ terms are due to end on December 31, and their financial groups have begun selecting successors. Cybersecurity and internal controls may be factors in the banks’ year-end personnel decisions.
