STOCKS | Republicans Distance Themselves From Trump on Tariffs and Data Centers

Republican candidates in some of the most competitive House and Senate races are distancing themselves from U.S. President Donald Trump on core agenda items, including tariffs, war with Iran, and data centers. According to Sina Finance, the moves suggest some Republicans believe parts of Trump's policy stance are hurting their election prospects. Maine Senator Susan Collins, Kansas Senator Roger Marshall, and Nebraska Senator Pete Ricketts have recently broken with Trump on tariffs, while seven House Republicans joined Democrats this week to back a bill requiring Trump to withdraw U.S. forces involved in hostile action against Iran unless Congress authorizes war. Iowa Representatives Zach Nunn and Mariannette Miller-Meeks also voted against Trump on Iran-related issues after previously supporting him. Some Republicans are also uneasy about Trump's recent comments on artificial intelligence regulation, data centers, and Flock Safety surveillance cameras. Ohio Senator Jon Husted said, "This is not my position," after Trump argued that communities opposing AI data centers would "fall behind and become poor."
