Elon Musk Lives in Airstream Trailer to Oversee xAI Expansion in Memphis

Elon Musk said he is currently living in an Airstream trailer to oversee xAI's largest expansion project so far. According to Sina Finance, Musk made the remarks on Monday while recording the All-In podcast, and SpaceX Chief Operating Officer Gwynne Shotwell also took part in the recording. Shotwell praised Musk's unusual living arrangement and said he fully commits himself whenever he takes on major projects he cares about. She said Musk is now in Memphis, where xAI is accelerating the expansion of its Colossus supercomputing center. The project began in 2024 and is designed to provide computing power for xAI's Grok model. xAI also rents excess computing capacity to Google and Anthropic under contracts worth billions of dollars. Musk did not disclose the exact model of the Airstream trailer. The aluminum camper has a sleeping area, a kitchen, and a bathroom within 16 feet of space.
