U.S. Appeals Court Rejects Energy Department Bid to Block Michigan Coal Plant Closure

According to Wallstreetcn, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit ruled that the Energy Department had no authority under federal law to use emergency powers to stop the closure of Michigan's J.H. Campbell coal-fired power plant. The court sided with Michigan, Minnesota, Illinois, and public-interest groups, saying the Energy Department misread the law's meaning of "emergency intervention" and that there was no short-term crisis overriding state governments' grid-management authority.
