EU Lawmaker Peter Liese to Propose ETS Market Intervention Trigger at 25% Price Move

According to Wallstreetcn, EU lawmaker Peter Liese, who is leading reforms of the European Union Emissions Trading System (ETS), will propose market intervention if the three-month average price of carbon allowances rises or falls more than 25% from the previous year's average. If prices move above that threshold, 25 million allowances would be released from the Market Stability Reserve (MSR); if prices fall by that amount, 25 million allowances would be placed into the reserve. Liese's report will also include other adjustments, including changing the pace at which the emissions cap is reduced, rewarding companies that decarbonize faster with more free allowances, and supporting industries covered by the EU Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM).
