Thailand's Finance Ministry is considering a 50 billion baht plan to subsidize rooftop solar installations for 1 million households. According to Sina Finance, Finance Minister Ekniti Nitithanprapas said each household could receive up to 50,000 baht in subsidies, with the remaining installation costs covered by low-interest loans from state-owned banks.
The ministry plans to discuss the proposal with relevant agencies on Friday or early next week. The Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand, Government Savings Bank, and Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives will initially finance solar installations for participating households. Households can repay loans with proceeds from selling surplus electricity back to the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand. Registration is expected to begin in mid-October this year, with implementation planned by the end of 2027. The government’s final goal is to expand the program to 1.5 million households.
