Washington Post: Iran Wedding May Have Been Hit by Stray U.S. Bomb

The Washington Post reported on September 6 that the incident may have been caused by a U.S. bomb that deviated from its intended target. A U.S. official said the airstrike target in the area was a communications facility, while people familiar with the matter said a small communications tower at the site was in a civilian area about 134 meters from the wedding venue. U.S. warplanes dropped six bombs on the tower, and one appeared to miss the target. The report also said U.S. officials were assessing other possible causes, including a falling air-defense missile, but people familiar with the matter and weapons experts considered that possibility very unlikely.
