Trump Says Britain Is 'on the Brink of Disaster' Over Energy and Immigration

U.S. President Donald Trump said on September 3 that Britain was "on the brink of disaster," citing energy and immigration problems, and again criticized the British government led by Prime Minister Burnham, according to Jiemian News. Trump also declined to clearly state his position on the sovereignty dispute over the Falkland Islands, known in Argentina as the Malvinas, and repeated his criticism of Britain over the Iran conflict. He said Britain had not helped him and recalled that then-Prime Minister Starmer said Britain had no ships available for the Iran conflict. Trump had said on August 31 that he might reconsider the U.S. government's position on the Falklands dispute, while a report on August 28 said Washington might withdraw support for Britain in the dispute to pressure London to raise defense spending under NATO. Argentina's foreign minister, Pablo Quirno, said on September 2 that Argentina must use all available means to achieve sovereignty over the islands.
