Saudi Arabia Condemns Iranian Attack On Bahri Supertanker In Strait Of Hormuz

According to the BBC, Saudi Arabia condemned what it said was an Iranian attack on the Saudi-owned supertanker Sidr on Monday night, an incident that killed two Filipino sailors. Bahri, Saudi Arabia's national shipping company, said the vessel was involved in a security incident while transiting the Strait of Hormuz at about 23:40 local time (19:40 GMT), and maritime security firms said it was hit by projectiles north of Oman's Musandam Peninsula. A South Korean-owned supertanker, Senegal Prosperity, was reportedly struck east of Musandam around the same time. The Saudi foreign ministry later condemned Iran's targeting of the tanker and called for an end to escalation, citing the security of international navigation and global energy supplies. Maritime risk management firms Marisks and Kpler said two tankers loaded with two million barrels of Saudi crude oil each were struck by unknown projectiles within minutes of each other as they transited outbound through the strait late on Monday. US Energy Secretary Chris Wright said 17 million barrels of oil flowed through the Strait of Hormuz by ship on Monday, a record daily total since the start of the war.
