Meta's $18 Billion Settlement Could Clear Path For New AI Products

According to CNBC, Meta's $18 billion social media settlement has removed a legal overhang that some analysts say could open the door to a wave of new AI product launches. Meta agreed to make changes to Instagram and Facebook for users under 18, including a two-hour daily usage limit, disabling extreme makeup and cosmetic surgery filters, and adding tighter age verification measures. Meta will pay the settlement over 10 years and said it is booking a $10 billion legal charge in the third quarter this year, while its July guidance remains unchanged. Morgan Stanley said Meta may have multiple products in the pipeline, including a better MetaAI, agentic ad tools for small and medium-sized businesses, subscription offerings, an API offering and neocloud optionality. Needham kept its hold rating on Meta, citing the company's broad spending across chips, data centers, enterprise AI software, business agents, model APIs, compute sales, advertising tools, consumer assistants and smart glasses.
