According to CNBC, GoPro said it will enter into a definitive merger with private photonics company Starman Optical and expand into AI data center and defense markets. The company said shareholders will receive a $285 million cash payment, or $1.14 per share, and the stock will remain listed on the Nasdaq. GoPro CEO Nicholas Woodman said the deal is intended to help the company grow across consumer, commercial and defense markets as an American imaging and optical solutions company focused on cameras, optics and AI infrastructure. GoPro shares rose 38% after the announcement. The company also said its $92 million debt will be repaid when the deal closes and that it will continue supporting its consumer products, subscription and cloud platform while investing in a broader product roadmap.
