Apple has raised prices for some laptops and tablets in multiple markets worldwide, with increases ranging from 16% to 25%.
According to Jin10, prices for many popular computer models in China have also risen sharply, alongside broad increases in the costs of key components such as memory, storage drives, CPUs, and graphics cards.
At a computer retailer in Shenzhen’s Huaqiangbei electronics district, a best-selling gaming laptop that launched last July or August had a retail price of about 7,000 yuan, but its current end price has exceeded 10,000 yuan. Store visits found that price increases were not limited to gaming laptops, with standard business laptops also seeing widespread hikes.
Models that were priced below 4,000 yuan in the market last year have largely become difficult to find this year. For mid- to high-end laptops, price increases have generally ranged from 500 yuan to 1,500 yuan.
Since the fourth quarter of last year, a surge in global demand for AI computing power has pushed up prices for core components, including memory, hard drives, CPUs, and graphics cards. In response to manufacturers’ price adjustment notices, many distributors have had to frequently revise end retail prices this year.
