U.S. House bill would create federal crypto-theft task force led by attorney general

A bipartisan bill introduced in the U.S. House would establish a Federal Cryptocurrency Theft Task Force to coordinate and lead investigations into cryptocurrency theft across agencies. According to CoinDesk, the group would be led by the U.S. attorney general and include the DOJ, FBI, Department of Homeland Security and the Treasury Department, among others. The legislation is sponsored by Rep. Lance Gooden, a Texas Republican on the House Judiciary Committee, and Rep. Josh Gottheimer, a New Jersey Democrat on House Financial Services. The bill’s path to passage remains unclear.
