Activist investor Oasis is dropping two of its four board nominees in its proxy challenge at Vail Resorts, Bloomberg reported.

Canadian heavy crude prices reached their weakest level relative to US oil futures since 2018, when a major pipeline bottleneck prompted Alberta’s government to impose production limits on the largest producers, according to Bloomberg.

According to CNBC, shares of the Federal National Mortgage Association, known as Fannie Mae, and the Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corporation, known as Freddie Mac, each rose more than 60% from Oct. 14 to Monday’s close and gained roughly 3% on Tuesday. Bill Ackman, founder of Pershing Square Capital Management and an investor in both companies, has pushed for them to exit federal conservatorship and said the midterm elections could be a turning point. In a quarterly letter issued Monday, he said the stocks could rise 10-fold from current share prices.

According to CNBC, Texas’ gubernatorial and Senate races are drawing attention as potential pressure points for the AI trade, which has weakened amid concerns about financing and valuations. The Nasdaq-100 fell 10% from a record set last month, entering correction territory, while the PHLX Semiconductor Index dropped about 19% over the past month and the Global X AI and Technology ETF declined about 10%. Wells Fargo estimates Texas accounts for 27% of data center capacity measured in gigawatts. A University of Houston survey found more than 80% of Texas voters were concerned about data centers’ effects on water supplies and electricity prices. Incumbent Republican Greg Abbott is seeking a fourth term against Democrat Gina Hinojosa, while Democrat James Talarico and Republican Ken Paxton are neck and neck in the Senate race. Abbott halted data-center permitting in September. Talarico has proposed ending certain tax subsidies and tightening labor, environmental and electricity-grid standards. Washington Analysis’ John Sonsalla said an outcome in which Talarico wins the Senate seat and Hinojosa defeats Abbott would have a more negative effect on the AI trade. Evercore ISI strategist Julian Emanuel said the Texas governor’s race could influence the AI sector, citing expectations that Abbott would lift the data-center moratorium while Hinojosa would maintain it.

Bill Ackman said he sees no bubble in U.S. stocks, but blamed leverage, same-day options, sports betting and perpetual futures for casino-like swings; he said Tuesday they hurt the country but let Pershing Square buy Microsoft during this year’s software sell-off and Amazon after its tariff slump. Pershing expects 20% annual earnings growth over the next three to five years, versus 13% for the S&P 500, according to BeInCrypto; Ackman rejected a Roaring 20s comparison, citing rising profit forecasts and reasonable valuations, and said the U.S. cannot slow its AI race. He called private startup funding more bubble-like but defended Ramp’s $44 billion valuation in June.
