US stocks closed lower on Thursday as US oil prices broke above $100 a barrel amid growing concerns that a prolonged war in the Middle East could worsen inflation, according to Sina Finance. The Dow fell 316.559 points, or 0.60%, to 52,064.102; the S&P 500 dropped 44.660 points, or 0.58%, to 7,591.700; and the Nasdaq lost 171.615 points, or 0.65%, to 26,081.725. With the US-Iran war now in its seventh month, high oil prices continued to weigh on market sentiment. High-beta chip stocks that had led the bull market moved lower on concerns that rising rates and oil prices could drag on economic growth, with Intel down more than 5% and Micron Technology off 4.7%. A mild wholesale inflation report failed to ease worries over rates and oil. The Producer Price Index (PPI) rose a seasonally adjusted 0.4% month over month in August, in line with consensus expectations, while the annualized rate came in at 5.4%, still well above the Federal Reserve's 2% inflation target. The report was released ahead of Friday's closely watched Consumer Price Index (CPI), with both figures feeding into the Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) price index, which will not be released until after the Fed's September 16 rate decision. According to the CME FedWatch tool, federal funds futures priced a 73% probability of a 25 basis point hike after next week's meeting. The major indexes had fallen for three straight sessions after the US Treasury said it would buy back up to $6 billion in longer-dated debt, three times the usual size; less than a month earlier, the Treasury had said it would more than double a $2 billion government debt buyback.

According to CNBC, Oracle rose more than 4% in extended trading after topping Wall Street expectations in its fiscal first quarter. The company earned $1.92 per share on an adjusted basis and posted revenue of $19.35 billion, while analysts polled by LSEG had sought $1.74 per share and $19.14 billion. Cloud infrastructure revenue more than doubled to $7.4 billion, beating the $7.09 billion estimate. Adobe slid 2% after issuing current-quarter guidance roughly in line with estimates, projecting adjusted earnings of $6.30 to $6.35 per share versus the LSEG consensus of $6.32, and revenue of $6.80 billion to $6.85 billion against the $6.85 billion consensus. Copart surged almost 8% after fourth-quarter revenue of $1.15 billion topped the LSEG consensus of $1.14 billion, and the car auction company announced it would acquire digital automotive marketplace ACV in a roughly $1.9 billion deal. RH climbed 6% after posting second-quarter revenue of $922 million, beating the $915 million consensus, with full-year revenue guidance calling for growth of 5.5% to 7%.

KB Securities said on September 11 that Samsung Electronics' HBM market share could rise from 33% in the second quarter to 40% in the fourth quarter. According to ChainCatcher, the forecast is driven by HBM4 sales in the third quarter rising more than three times quarter over quarter, with HBM4 expected to account for more than 60% of Samsung's total HBM sales in the second half of the year. Samsung has also set a roadmap for full-scale HBM4 mass production, HBM4E samples for key customers, an HBM5 architecture using a 1c core die and a 2-nanometer base die, and next-generation ZHBM. In foundry operations, 4-nanometer yields have remained above 80%, while 2-nanometer GAA yields have climbed above 70%. KB Securities analyst Kim Dong-Won said the foundry business could turn profitable from the third quarter and that improved 2-nanometer yields may help Samsung win orders from a major U.S. customer this year.
