According to Odaily, the update addresses a critical backup issue affecting some Lightning wallets that use non-deterministic keys and anchored channels, and it includes fixes based on reports from Bitcoin Red Team, Calle, l0rinc, haoxucu, and m0wer. The release also strengthens Lightning HTLC validation, rejects malformed xpub and xprv keys that were previously accepted, expands security hardening across the codebase, and prevents the Android QR code scanner from reading screenshots. Electrum said affected users will see a warning when starting the wallet and should export a new backup, as older backups cannot correctly restore funds in this scenario. It is the third security-focused release from Electrum since July, following versions 4.8.0 and 4.8.1.

The source stressed that the understanding does not mean the Strait of Hormuz will be reopened, and said Iran has conveyed seven conditions for reopening the strait to the U.S. through intermediaries; until those conditions are implemented and approved by Iran's highest-level institutions, the Strait of Hormuz will remain closed.
