Dogecoin prototype Shiba Inu Kabosu dies

Kabosu, the Shiba Inu who captured the hearts of millions as the spokesperson for the legendary "Doge" Dogecoin, died peacefully on May 24. Kabosu was only 17 years old.

Kabosu's owner Sato Atsuko announced the news on her official blog and expressed her deep gratitude for the love and support for Kabosu over the years. Sato said that a farewell party for "Kabo-chan" will be held on May 26 at Flower Kaori in Narita City's Kotsu-no-Mori.

The cryptocurrency community and Kabosu's fans expressed their condolences, sharing tributes and some of their fondest memories of the dog who became an Internet legend.

Kabosu's legacy as an ambassador for crypto culture and Dogecoin will continue to symbolize the spirit of the community and inspire future generations of Meme culture.

Kabosu first gained attention in 2010 when Sato posted photos of her adopted dog on her blog. One specific image of Kabosu, sporting an expression of doubt and curiosity, quickly went viral, spawning the "Doge" meme coin.

This single image, along with the phrase in broken English and Comic Sans font, became a cornerstone of internet culture.

By 2013, after Dogecoin was created, using Kabosu's image as its official logo, the popularity of this foundational meme surged.

Although Dogecoin started out as a joke, it has since grown into a major cryptocurrency responsible for multiple charitable initiatives.

Kabosu's influence has even seeped into political campaigns, which is vital to the meme, as seen after President Joe Biden's reelection campaign announced it was hiring a "Meme Master."

According to the official job description, the primary task of the position is to manage relationships with digital media companies, podcasts, and multiple meme pages across social media platforms.
