The European Parliament has approved a data bill requiring smart contracts to have termination designs, a provision that could make most smart contracts illegal. The legislation now needs formal approval from the European Council, which consists of the heads of state of the 27 member states.
According to a review by CoinDesk, the bill has a provision that requires automated data sharing agreements to be safely terminated, including smart contracts. Blockchain-related organizations such as Stellar, Polygon, NEAR, and Cardano expressed their concerns in an open letter.
