According to CNBC, President Donald Trump said Sunday that the planned 250-foot-tall memorial arch near the Lincoln Memorial and Arlington National Cemetery would be converted into a "top grade Military Complex/Triumphal Arch" that could store ammunition and host drones and snipers. The Pentagon said it had no information beyond the president's statement, while the project faces legal challenges from three veterans and an architectural historian who say Congress must approve it before it can move forward. Trump said he agreed at the military's "strong request" to add the defensive features, and Rep. Don Beyer, D-Va., called the idea of a drone launching site near DCA dangerous and unworkable. The arch has received early approval from the U.S. Commission of Fine Arts, but it has not yet won final approval from the National Capital Planning Commission, which is expected to revisit the matter this fall.
