Kuwait Petroleum Official Says Tankers Use Strait of Hormuz When Conditions Are Safe

Imad Kandari, deputy general manager for international marketing at Kuwait Petroleum, said on Wednesday that the state-owned producer arranges tankers to transport crude through the Strait of Hormuz when conditions are safe. According to Sina Finance, he said some of the company’s vessels continue to pass through the strait, while ship-to-ship transfers are also available to ensure supply to customers. Kandari said the Strait of Hormuz remains passable but is not safe, adding, “I would not say it has been closed.” Kuwait Petroleum said on September 8 that its crude exports were about 1 million barrels per day, including crude delivered through ship-to-ship transfers outside the Strait of Hormuz.
