Silicon Valley angel investor Liron Shapira said on X that he assigns a 50% probability to Bitcoin falling more than 50% within the next two years, arguing that AI could undermine the security and stability assumptions once associated with BTC. According to ChainCatcher, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin pushed back, saying he is optimistic about long-term network security and believes the main challenge is navigating the transition period smoothly.
Buterin added that Bitcoin can handle problems that do not require social consensus, such as client and mining pool upgrades to address network-layer attacks, and said the chance of a hash algorithm or proof-of-work mechanism being truly broken is extremely small. He also said he would have liked to make a bet, but noted that about 90% of his net worth is already tied to that wager.
