AI TRENDS | Google Expands TPU Sales to Neoclouds as It Competes With Nvidia in AI Chips

Google is stepping up competition with Nvidia in the AI chip market by expanding the commercial use of its in-house Tensor Processing Units (TPUs) to target AI computing demand long dominated by Nvidia. According to Odaily, Google is both a major customer of Nvidia’s AI server chips and is developing its own AI chips that could serve as alternatives to Nvidia GPUs. The report said Google has shifted strategy since this year and plans to sell TPU chips to emerging cloud computing providers known as neoclouds. These cloud firms focus on providing AI computing resources and are a key customer group driving demand growth for Nvidia GPUs. Analysts cited in the report said the move suggests TPUs are transitioning from internal infrastructure to a broader commercial chip platform. By encouraging neoclouds to adopt TPUs, Google aims to reduce AI companies’ reliance on Nvidia’s GPU ecosystem and expand its position in AI infrastructure.
