Iran's representative to the United Nations accused the United States of "piracy" and demanded the release of the detained ships.

According to Al Jazeera, Iran's representative to the United Nations stated in a letter to UN Secretary-General Guterres that Iran rejects the US's piracy of Iranian vessels, has the right to retaliate, and should be held responsible for the impact of its piracy on regional and global security.
