Last Sunday, Republican Senator Thom Tillis dropped his obstruction of Warsh's nomination as Federal Reserve Chairman after the Justice Department concluded its investigation into Powell. The Senate Banking Committee ultimately voted 13-11 to send Warsh's nomination to the full Senate for a vote. According to the Senate Banking Committee's website, the vote is scheduled for 10:00 AM Eastern Time on April 29. On the same day, the Federal Open Market Committee will also release its latest interest rate decision, and incumbent Chairman Powell will hold his 63rd, and possibly final, press conference in his eight years at the helm of the Federal Reserve. Powell's term as Federal Reserve Chairman will expire on May 15, but his term as a member of the Board of Governors will run until January 31, 2028. Whether Powell will simultaneously step down from the Federal Reserve Board of Governors has become a focus of market attention.
