On April 26 local time, Acting U.S. Attorney General Todd Branch stated that a search warrant had been executed for the suspect in the White House Correspondents' Association dinner security incident, and that the suspect believed he traveled from Los Angeles to Washington, D.C. by train via Chicago. Branch stated that the suspect will be charged in federal court on the morning of April 27. Branch said the gunman at the White House Correspondents' Association dinner "intended to attack government staff, most likely including the president himself." Branch stated that investigators have been able to gather information from the suspect's electronic devices and have interviewed several people who know him, and they are beginning to understand his motives.
