Umbra, a privacy protocol provider, has shut down its hosted front-end website to prevent attackers from using the protocol to transfer funds stolen in a recent security incident. Umbra stated that approximately $800,000 was transferred through its protocol, but the protocol was only used to conceal the recipient's identity; the transactions are still traceable on-chain. This action comes after the attack on the Kelp protocol, which resulted in losses exceeding $280 million. Umbra said it will restore front-end services once it confirms that this will not affect asset recovery efforts, but it cannot prevent users from continuing to use the protocol via smart contracts or self-hosted front-ends.
