A tanker was reportedly attacked 20 nautical miles northeast of Oman following a fraudulent cryptocurrency safe-passage scheme in the Strait of Hormuz. According to NS3.AI, the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) issued warning 037-26 regarding the incident. Greek maritime risk firm MARISKS highlighted that unidentified individuals, posing as Iranian authorities, demanded transit fees in Bitcoin or USDT. Radio transmissions, widely attributed to the Sanmar Herald, recorded a captain stating that the vessel had received clearance before being fired upon. Although the tanker and its crew were confirmed safe, UKMTO did not disclose the ship's identity, and Reuters noted that the public payment trail to a specific vessel was not verified.
