The Iranian side briefed the Russian side on its position regarding three issues: the US violation of the ceasefire, the illegal maritime blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, and the seizure of an Iranian container ship. Iran confirmed that it would do everything possible to ensure the unimpeded passage of Russian ships and cargo through the Strait of Hormuz. The Russian side emphasized that the ceasefire must be maintained and that it should be observed within the parameters initially coordinated and announced by Pakistan, the mediator. The Russian side stated that diplomatic efforts must continue to prevent the situation from escalating out of control and to avoid a recurrence of armed confrontation. Russia reiterated its willingness to assist Iran and the Gulf Arab states in reaching a mutually acceptable agreement.
