London-based credit hedge fund Andromeda Capital Management said rising global government bond yields are posing an increasingly serious threat to the corporate bond market. According to Sina Finance, Alberto Gallo, the firm's chief investment officer and co-founder, said the U.S. government is trying to keep the dollar strong and suppress U.S. Treasury yields without rebalancing the budget or reducing debt. Gallo said that with large public borrowing and widening deficits, this approach is unsustainable. He added that either long-term yields must rise, which could trigger a credit crunch, especially amid heavy borrowing in the AI sector, or the currency must weaken. Gallo, who has worked in credit markets for more than 20 years, initially expected the dollar to weaken. He said that over the long term, high rates, high inflation, and record government spending could hit corporate bonds, adding that government bond yields are so high that the market may already have hit some icebergs.

Shimao City Development (00563) said reports that the Shanghai Stock Exchange has received an application involving the listing of certain group assets, including a subsidized rental housing portfolio, as a real estate investment trust are premature, according to ETNet. The company said the possible transaction is still at an initial and exploratory stage and is only one potential way for shareholders to realise value. It is assessing the possible structure and feasibility of the deal, including whether to proceed with a REIT listing, a direct sale or disposal, or another alternative structure, as well as the assets or businesses involved, potential counterparties or sponsors, indicative timing and key terms. Shimao City Development said the transaction may or may not proceed and remains subject to negotiation and execution of final documents, required regulatory and government approvals, and market conditions. It said further announcements will be made in due course.

Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing said the top 10 most actively traded stocks under Southbound Stock Connect for September 10 included Tencent, Alibaba, SMIC, Xiaomi, CNOOC and several AI-related names, according to ETNet. In the Shanghai leg, Zhipu recorded HK$1.51 billion in southbound buying and HK$2.40 billion in selling, for a net outflow of HK$889.68 million. Tencent posted a net inflow of HK$819.34 million, while Xiaomi had a net inflow of HK$211.24 million. U.S.-listed Chinese ADRs mostly declined overnight, with Yunmi rising 25.93% to $1.36, according to ETNet. Among major names, Alibaba fell 0.77% to $108.56, Baidu dropped 1.56% to $90.59, Bilibili lost 2.77% to $15.47, Tencent slipped 1.65% to $53.79 and PDD eased 0.98% to $77.84. In other sectors, Li Auto fell 2.18% to $11.65, Nio declined 3.24% to $3.58 and XPeng dropped 2.18% to $10.34. BeiGene fell 2.62% to $341.80, Hutchmed lost 3.32% to $13.12 and Zai Lab declined 3.63% to $24.17. The dollar was quoted at HK$7.8407.
