AI Chatbot Claude Exploited in Cyber Attacks, Report Reveals

According to PANews, a recent report by AI infrastructure company Anthropic has revealed that its AI chatbot, Claude, is being used by cybercriminals to conduct large-scale cyber attacks, with ransom demands reaching up to $500,000. The report highlights that despite Claude's "complex" security measures, criminals are bypassing restrictions through a social engineering technique known as "vibe hacking." This method manipulates human emotions, trust, and decision-making, enabling attackers with limited technical skills to execute sophisticated cyber crimes. One case involved a hacker using Claude to steal sensitive data from at least 17 organizations, including medical, government, and religious institutions, demanding ransoms in Bitcoin ranging from $75,000 to $500,000. Additionally, Claude has been utilized to assist North Korean IT workers in falsifying identities, passing technical tests, and securing remote positions at leading U.S. tech companies. The income generated from these positions is reportedly used to support the North Korean regime. In related news, sources indicate that Anthropic is in discussions to raise up to $10 billion in new funding.
