Zcash Expects NU7 Upgrade to Make $16 Million in Sprout Pool ZEC Inaccessible

Zcash plans to activate its NU7 network upgrade at block 3,543,405 at about 10:30 (UTC+8) on November 6, or 9:30 p.m. U.S. Eastern Time on Thursday. According to Odaily, the upgrade will reject version 4 transactions, the only format that can transfer tokens out of the Sprout privacy pool. About 12,200 ZEC remained in the pool on Thursday morning, and holders need to move the tokens before activation. Even valid private keys will not allow access after the upgrade. ZIP 2003 preserves the possibility of restoring access through a future upgrade, but says transfers may never be re-enabled.
