India's NSE International Exchange announced on Tuesday that it would extend trading hours to nearly 24 hours to make it easier for overseas investors to participate. According to Sina Finance, the expanded session took effect on November 2, bringing daily operating hours to 23 hours and 30 minutes, from 3:15 a.m. to 2:45 a.m. the following day India Standard Time (IST), covering Asian, European and U.S. market sessions.
V. Balasubramaniam, managing director and CEO of NSE International Exchange, said cross-time-zone market access would give participants greater flexibility and strengthen connectivity between GIFT City and global financial markets.
Founded in 2017 in Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT City), NSE International Exchange is regulated by the International Financial Services Centres Authority. Its products include equities, index and currency derivatives, depository receipts and global stocks. The move is part of a broader plan to develop GIFT City as India's international financial center.
The exchange said technology designed to minimize downtime enables system maintenance within three minutes between trading sessions and within 15 minutes after the daily close. It also said it would continue expanding international access channels and improving market infrastructure to meet global participants' needs.
