Ukraine, Russia Report Separate Cyberattacks on Emergency Apps After Fake Nuclear Alerts

According to CNBC, Ukraine’s Air Force said Sunday its Air Alert app had been compromised and displayed false nuclear and chemical threat warnings in Kyiv and other areas, along with alerts about street fighting. The Air Force said unauthorized users had interfered with the app and push notifications were temporarily disabled. It said there was no radiation threat and urged people to stay calm and follow its Telegram messages. Two hours later, Russia’s Ministry for Emergency Situations said its mobile app had been hit by a cyberattack that allowed attackers to send false information to the public. It was not immediately clear whether the incidents were linked.
