MultiversX said the root cause of a previous attack was an ordering error in an edge case, and the situation was brought under control after validators responded quickly. According to Foresight News, the attacker’s account has been identified and frozen on major exchanges, and law enforcement has been involved.
The proposed recovery plan is a coordinated hard fork from a known good checkpoint, with drills to be conducted first on the testnet and devnet with validators. The relevant code has been made public and testing is still ongoing. The project warned users not to submit or rebroadcast transactions, or deposit or withdraw EGLD/ESDT through exchanges or cross-chain bridges, until it announces that recovery is complete. Exchanges and cross-chain bridges will reopen in stages after the restart.
