Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said some AI industry leaders are calling for tighter regulation, but he believes the warnings are not sincere. According to Sina Finance, Huang made the remarks in an interview aired on Sunday local time, saying some AI lab leaders were warning that their products could harm people in various ways if artificial intelligence is not more tightly regulated. Speaking about AI leaders who have urged governments to regulate the industry, Huang said they were not really asking for more new rules, but wanted to escape existing legal constraints. He added that they must have another motive. Huang said he does not know what those motives are, but said using the technology to create panic is both "irresponsible" and "unnecessary." His comments echoed U.S. President Donald Trump, who said on Saturday that no new rules are needed to ensure the technology's safety. Trump said on Truth Social that the administration would not block or stifle the industry's development in any way. White House Office of Science and Technology Policy Director Michael Kratsios also rejected the idea that tech companies need government intervention to keep their AI models safe. In an interview on Sunday, he said AI labs could simply "shut down" related work if they believe their products are dangerous. Last week, several leading executives in the AI sector called for slowing AI development until adequate safeguards are in place.
