ICE Officer Shoots Man In Austin, Texas, As Protesters Gather

According to CNBC, a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer shot and wounded a man Sunday afternoon in Austin, Texas, after a traffic stop, and anti-ICE protesters gathered at the scene. Austin Police Chief Lisa Davis said the unnamed man was in serious but stable condition at a hospital after being shot once in the torso, and she said Austin police were not involved in the operation or the shooting. Mayor Kirk Watson said he wants the city police department involved in the investigation and said ICE should not investigate on its own. Davis said she did not yet know the man's nationality and that the department's special investigation unit was at the scene. U.S. Rep. Greg Casar called for transparency and said ICE should end its surge in Austin. The shooting came as ICE enforcement across the country this summer produced more than 50,000 arrests a month for the first time in the agency's history in July and August.
